To query all installed package
To query a particular package

#rpm  -qa
#rpm  -qa  |  grep  -i <package name>

# dpkg  -l
#dpkg  -l | grep  -i  <package name>

To  install a package
To  install a package  without dependency

# rpm  -ivh  <package>
# rpm  -ivh  <package>  –nodeps

 

#dpkg  -i  package.deb

To  install a package from server

# rpm  -ivh  http:// < server ip address> /                            File name

#dpkg  -i  http:// < server ip address> /                            File name

To query the information about a package

# rpm  -qi  <package name>

#dpkg   –info  <package.deb>
#dpkg  -p  <package>

To query list  of files in a package

# rpm  -ql

#dpkg  -L  <package name>
#dpkg-deb  –contents  <package.deb>

To  list  the contents of  a package

# rpm  -qpl  <package name.rpm>

#dpkg  -S  <package.deb>

To query/verify  the package(s) which require a  dependency

#rpm -q  <package name>  –whatrequires capability

#dpkg-deb  -I  <package.deb>

To  List the package name from the installed  file

#rpm  -q  –whatprovides  </path/to/file>

#dpkg  -S   </path/to/file>

To upgrade package(s)

#rpm  -Uvh  <package name>

#dpkg  -i  <Package.deb>

To  delete a package
To  delete a package  without  dependency  check

#rpm  -e   <package>
#rpm  -e   <package>  –nodeps

#dpkg  -r  <package> //remove package except config. file
#dpkg  -P  <package> //remove complete package
