Backup & Restore configuration in FortiGate |

Administrators can back up the FortiGate unit’s configuration file from the System Information widget. Select Backup in the System Configuration row, to back up the firmware configuration file to a local computer, USB disk.
It is recommend to back up your configuration whenever you make any modifications to the device configuration or firmware updates or perform regular backup.
Foritgate provides the following options while performing the configuration backups.

Local PC
|
Select to back up the configuration file to a local management computer.

|
FortiManager
|
Select to back up the configuration file to a FortiManager unit. The Central Management settings must be enabled and a FortiManager unit connected with the FortiGate unit so that the FortiGate unit can send the configuration file to the FortiManager unit.
To enable central management, go to System > Admin > Central Management.

|
USB Disk
|
Select to back up the configuration file to a USB key that is connected to the FortiGate unit.
|
|
Encrypt configuration file
|
Select to enable a password to the configuration file for added security.
|
|
Password
|
Enter the password that will be used to restore the configuration file. |
|
Confirm
|
Re-enter the password.
|
Restoring your firmware configuration
Administrators can restore a configuration file that was backed up using the System Information widget. If the configuration file was encrypted, you will need the password to restore the configuration file.
A restore can be done whenever any problem or rollback to any previous state.

Local PC
|
Select to back up the configuration file to a local management computer.
|

FortiManager
|
Select to back up the configuration file to a FortiManager unit. The Central Management settings must be enabled and a FortiManager unit connected with the FortiGate unit so that the FortiGate unit can send the configuration file to the FortiManager unit.
To enable central management, go to System > Admin > Central Management.

|
Select to back up the configuration file to a USB key that is connected to the FortiGate unit.

Filename
|
Select Browse to locate the configuration file
|
|
Password
|
If a password was set when saving the configuration file, enter the password.
